The Hatch Chile Festival is back this Labor Day weekend, and we are excited! If you’re a chile lover – this is the place for you to be.
Yes, this is where the true Hatch Green Chile is grown and there’s nothing else like it in the world. Buy a bag of chile while you’re there and have it roasted while you watch and smell! Your life will never be the same!
The aroma of fresh chiles as they are being roasted is intoxicating and when you first smell it – then taste it, you will understand why we New Mexicans love our chile so much. It’s easy to become addicted to it.
Self-proclaimed Chile Heads can test their tongues and tummies in the Annual Chile Eating/Jalapeno Eating Contests and a Watermelon Eating Contest to cool off those taste buds! There’s a carnival, live music, Cornhole Tournament and lot of other fun things to do and eat! The Festival is September 4th and 5th.
For a peaceful and relaxing setting with a beautiful cactus garden, several hiking trails, and opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking and birding to park your RV, head to Leesburg Dam State Park. It’s location makes it convenient to Las Cruces, White Sands – which is only an hour away and the Gila Cliff Dwellings is about a 3 hour drive but makes a nice day trip.
The park has 31 developed campsites with water and electricity (30 AMP). If you want a rustic and more private site, reserve a spot in the Agave Loop . The dry camp sites are only $10 a night!
